Monday 3rd May

In previous years we have visited the Coopers Hill Cheese Rolling event in Gloucester, but after 6 years of attending, unfortunately the organisers have had to cancel the event for 2010. Not to worry though! - we’ve found another ‘Cheesey’ day out on the first May bank holiday Monday in the small village of Stilton, which celebrates May Day with Cheese Races, Stalls & a Fairground.

Instead of the dangers of hurling yourself down the ‘hill’, breaking arms & legs as has happened in the past, Stilton Cheese-rolling involves rolling a stilton cheese 2 minutes down the main street – in fancy dress of course!
The pre-registered contestants are teams of 4, either all men or all women and each team member has to roll the cheese at least once during it's flight.   It's a knockout competition with quarter's, semi's and a grand final.

This year’s festival theme is ‘International Dance’. For those not involved in the racing there are local stalls to visit, a fairground and of course the local pubs to wile away the afternoon.
Only a couple of hours from London, this bank holiday day trip by coach is sure to be a fun day out for all and you can choose to get as involved as you wish in the cheese races & fancy dress!

Monday 3rd May 2010:
Departure from Stamford Brook, London is 8.30am for the 2 hour drive to the small village of Stilton.

The festivities begin at 10.30am with an opening ceremony & parade, crowning of the May King & Queen, Maypole dancing by the local children, traditional local and international dancing.

The Cheese Rolling begins at 12 noon and each team of four must have pre-registered in advance [speak with us about this upon booking if you are interested].  The Cheese rolling involves a parade of teams first followed by Junior, Mens and Womans races and championship finals.

Throughout the day there is also fairground rides and local charity stalls with arts, crafts food & drink.

After the Cheese Rolling is completed then we will hop back on the coaches for London with expected arrival back at Stamford Brook being around 6pm for an after party at the Raven Pub, directly opposite our drop off point. <>
