Day 1 - 20/12

Your Egypt travel adventure begins with you being met at Cairo airport and transferred to your hotel. This evening your Oasis Tour leader will meet those of you who have arrived at our Hotel for an informal get together. (No meals provided today)

Day 2 - 21/12 - Cairo . The tour officially starts at 7am in the reception of the Havana Hotel
After breakfast your tour leader will gather the group together for an introductory briefing. With our local Egyptologist guide we will visit the Pyramids and Sphinx, where we also include a camel ride, and have a tour of the Egyptian History Museum, before catching the evening overnight train to Aswan. You may want to bring an eye-mask and travel pillow for this journey. (Two meals included)

Day 3 - 22/12 - Aswan
In the morning we are transferred from the train station to our Aswan Hotel. After lunch and some free time your tour leader can inform you of the various things you can do and places to visit in and around Aswan , including an evening visit to a Nubian village or a trip to Philae Temple dedicated to the cult of Isis on an island in Lake Nasser. (Three meals included)

Day 4 - 23/12 -Aswan
This morning we visit the incredible Sun Temple monuments at Abu Simbel in the desert south of Aswan . This is followed by a free afternoon to explore the vibrant Nubian city of Aswan , its attractive bazaars & cafes, as well as a number of tombs & monuments. (Three meals included)

Day 5 - 24/12 - Felucca
In the morning we transfer to our feluccas. Originally introduced by the Romans, these traditional sailing boats use only wind power, and occasionally oars. We have between 5 and 10 people per boat, with 2 crew. We will sleep on board over night as well as stop off at riverside villages and sandy beaches. A canopy can be erected as protection from the sun during the day and wind or dew at night. (Three meals included)

Please note that bedding is not provided on the feluccas so you should bring your own sleeping bag and a towel. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO SWIM YOU MUST INFORM YOUR TOUR LEADER BEFORE BOARDING THE FELUCCA.

Day 6 - 25/12 - Felucca
Enjoy Xmas lunch and celebrations while sailing down the Nile! (Three meals included)

Day 7 - 26/12 - Luxor
Our felucca trip finishes in the early morning to give you the opportunity to visit Kom Ombo Temple and the Temple of Horus at Edfu before transferring to Luxor , arriving around lunchtime. This afternoon we include a visit to the vast Karnak Temple reached by our own horse-drawn carriages. There is also the option of the Sound and Light Show in the evening. Luxor Temple is in the centre of town within easy walking distance of our hotel. (Two Meals included)

Day 8 - 27/12 - Luxor
Today we have a sturdy donkey each to visit the Valley of the Kings & Workers, where our guide shows us around a number of tombs. (In the summer months we may use an air-conditioned mini-bus instead of donkeys.) Intended by the Pharaohs who built them to be the ultimate insurance policy on eternal life, the tombs are very well hidden and we have to scramble down long dark underground shafts to discover their dramatic and quite amazing funerary glory. We will also visit the Colossi of Memnon and there is also the option to visit the Valley of the Queens & Hatshaputs as well. (Two meals included)

Day 9 - 28/12 - Luxor to Hurghada
We have a free morning in Luxor , where it is possible to visit a local orphanage . In the afternoon we will take the convoy across the desert to Hurghada for our overnight stay before the ferry to Dahab. (Two meals included)

Day 10 - 29/12 - Dahab
From Hurghada we take an early morning hydrofoil ferry across the Red Sea to the Sinai Peninsula . The ferry crossing by fast catamaran takes about 2 hours and we then transfer to Dahab, 1 hour away by minibus in time for lunch and a beer on the beach! With year round sunshine, warm sea temperature and a laid back attitude it is no wonder Dahab has become so popular with travellers. The Bedouin Arabs who live in Dahab are culturally quite different to their Egyptian countrymen. Here almost ëanything goes' and our stay in Dahab can become quite hedonistic! Here also there are no big tourist hotels nearby and we stay in a small air-conditioned hotel with swimming pool, 5 minutes walk from the beach. Dahab is also known as one of the worlds top diving locations, with spectacular coral gardens and marine life. You can snorkel to some of the coral within metres of the beach. (One meal included)

Please Note: Occasionally the Red Sea ferry may be out of service. If this is the case we go by coach from Luxor direct to Dahab. This takes about 18 hrs and is not a bus ride to be recommended! While the fast ferry is an expensive crossing for us, it cuts down your travelling time considerably, and it also adds to the variety of transport we provide.

Day 11 + 12 - 30/12 + 31/12 - Dahab, free days
You can hire snorkelling equipment or go scuba diving with one of the many dive centres. There is also a chance to climb Mt Sinai, although many people will just relax on the beach. A New Years Eve Party will be arranged for the group in the main pub / disco in Dahab, situated right on the sea front. (No meals included).

Day 13 - 01/01 - Dahab
After a further day relaxing in Dahab we get on the overnight bus across the Sinai Desert back to Cairo . (No meals included).

Day 14 - 02/01 - Cairo
After arrival in Cairo on the bus from Dahab, a room will be available at the Hotel for use until midday. Please Note: When booking flights out of Cairo , do not book flights departing before 12 midday on Day 14 (Friday 2nd Jan).

After breakfast we leave Marrakech and drive through the Gorges du Dades, an awesome valley which extends from the High Atlas to the Jebel Saghrou range in the south. [Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Overnight - Gorge du Dades ]

Day 3 - Christmas Day!
Today is spent exploring Todra Gorge, from its plunging depths to its awesome heights. Discover the charm of Todra on your trek. Witness it's changing colours as the sun slowly moves from east to west. Or alternatively, you could choose just to chill out for the day and put your feet up for Christmas. [ Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Overnight - Todra Gorge]

  Day 4 - Friday 26 th December:
After breakfast we cross the Jebel Saghrou and head down to Erg Chebbi sand dunes, which signify the commencement of the mighty Sahara Desert . Day 5 - Saturday 27 th December :
Leaving the desert, we travel through the verdant Draa valley, along the route of 1000 Kasbahs, a beautiful landscape.   Day 6 - Sunday 28 th December:
After breakfast we head to Aït Benhaddou, a 'fortified city', situated along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. It is situated on a hill along the Ouarzazate River and boasts some beautiful examples of kasbahs, some of which remain inhabited. Granted UNESCO World Heritage listing, the site had been the setting for many films including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator.
[Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Overnight - Marrakech]

Day 7 - Monday 29 th December:
Glowing red against the snowcapped High Atlas Mountains, the very name 'Marrakech' conjures up images of an exotic, distant city, of magic carpets and snake charmers and of frankincense and myrrh brought in by camel trains. Set within the rose-coloured walls of the medina lies a reality that is not that far removed from an exotic film set - a tangle of winding streets that open onto verdant gardens and dark alleyways that lead to bustling souks. The focal point is the central square, the Djemâa-el-Fna, an extraordinary gathering and market place. Full of colour, spicy aromas and traders it is best seen in the evening when overflowing with food stalls, dancers, acrobats, fortune tellers, musicians and henna artists. And towering over all this is the Koutoubia mosque, the tallest building in the city, and a reminder of the importance of Islam to the lives of the city's residents. Today is spent enjoying this exquisite city. [Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Overnight - Marrakech]

Day 8 - Tuesday 30 th December:

In 2007 our Christmas in Prague packages were extremely popular and why wouldn't they be - Prague is a beautiful city at any time of year but absolutely magical during the silly season. Masses of Christmas markets, rich culture and history, limitless activities to do and places to go makes Prague the perfect destination for those wanting to celebrate Christmas in Eastern European heartlands!

Day 1 - Tuesday 23rd December:
After making your way to Prague , please head to The Plus Prague hostel any time from 2pm onwards where you will be able to check in to your allocated rooms and meet your tour representatives. The group is invited to get together tonight to again meet your tour leaders, meet each other, and have a chat about what is in store over the next few days. The bar is open late so you can kick your feet up with a nice cold Staropramen (or two) or rest up for the big days ahead. Welcome to Praha!

Day 2 - Wednesday 24th December:

Christmas Eve in the Czech Republic is generally considered the most enjoyable day of the Christmas holiday. Most shops and restaurants are closed but the Christmas Markets are open until Midday so we will start the day by hitting one of the many fantastic Christmas Markets to find a little something special for Secret Santa gifts and to get us in the festive mood. Early this afternoon we will join our local English speaking guide for a walking tour of Prague . The tour lasts a couple of hours and is an excellent orientation and introduction to this amazing city.

Tonight the group will come together at the hostel bar for a Christmas Eve party including a DJ, dancing, hors d'oeurves and drink vouchers.

The Christmas Markets are open today as are most bars, restaurants, shops, theatres, opera, concerts and sight seeing tours. Alternatively head back into town to catch one of the many religous Masses and/or soak up the atmosphere by listening to carol singers!

This afternoon we will join together again for a Christmas dinner including a half bottle of wine! Relax with your new friends with a dip in the indoor swimming pool and some movie classics on the large screen TV.

Day 4/5 - Friday 26th & Saturday 27th December
:
These are free days for you to further investigate this awesome city! Your tour leaders will be on hand each morning to assist with any directions you may need and will be heading some excursions themselves. Perhaps visit Prague Castle , walk to the top of the Astronomical Clock, take a cruise up and down the Vltava, or we can arrange an optional excursion to Staropramen Brewery.

There are also some fantastic places to visit outside of Prague that may be of interest to you such as the Kutna Hora and the infamous bone church, the hamlet of Melhik or the romantic city of Cesky Krumlov .

These evenings the group will join together to enjoy the party life that Prague is famous for. Some touches of Jazz followed by epic nightclubs perhaps?!

Day 6 - Saturday 28th December:

>> 3 Day Belgium Christmas Market Weekend 5th - 7th December 2008 £169

Experience 4 Belgian towns in one very festive weekend!

Belgium is famous for its beautiful countryside, waffles, fries, beer & chocolate! The Belgian's know how to do Christmas in style, with Christmas Markets throughout December in all the major cities offering traditional gifts, illuminations and live entertainment!

Brugges Christmas Markets
There can't be many settings more beautiful at Christmas than medieval Brugges, with its cobbled streets, historic buildings and horses and carts plodding by. The Christmas market on the main square forms a ring around an open-air ice rink. Colourful lights illuminate festive stalls crammed with Christmas goodies, where shoppers can browse tables laden with elegantly-packaged chocolates, brightly-coloured sweets and unusual hand-made decorations. After a hard day's shopping, cosy bars offer distinguished local beer to relax with.

Brussels Markets
Brussels prepares for Christmas with a festive market, extending across the Bourse (stock exchange), Marché aux Poissons (fish market) and Place Sainte Catherine. Over 200 stalls from all over Europe offer traditional arts and crafts, jewellery, hand-made Christmas tree decorations and Belgian chocolate. For those who tire of shopping, an ice-rink is also set up at the fish market.

Would-be ice skating champions can enjoy the festive spirit on the outdoor ice-rink on Brussels ' Place Sainte Catherine. The main rink gives you plenty of space to practise your pirouettes, and there's a little rink next to it for kids.

The fun starts late-morning and carries on into the evening. Drifting round the rink hand-in-hand with your loved one can be a romantic way to enjoy the seasonal festivities, and the big wheel and merry-go-rounds in the square help to make this a memorable experience.

Ostend Christmas Market and Ice-Skating Rink
Ostend has its very own Christmas Market and ice-skating rink. Head to the city's main square for lots of winter cheer with music provided by a live DJ, food and mulled wine.

Antwerp Markets
